Coffee and tea during pregnancy: How much is too much?

Especially at the beginning of a pregnancy, many women feel tired and exhausted. For many people the question arises: Is it okay to drink energy drinks during pregnancy or green and black tea?

According to an article in the journal „Frauenarzt“, it depends on the amount: A Cochrane Meta-analysis showed that consuming up to three cups of coffee per day has no adverse effect on pregnancy. The amount of green or black tea should not exceed three to four cups. The consumption of energy drinks is strictly prohibited, as they contain substances such as taurine, inositol and glucuronolacton in addition to some very high caffeine levels.

Caffeine acts on the unborn child in a similar way to that of the mother: the heartbeat is accelerated and the nervous system is stimulated.

Therefore, only moderate amounts should be consumed during pregnancy—however, no one needs to completely give up their morning stimulant.
