Music increases the rate of conception
Our colleagues from the Instituto Marques in Barcelona presented a study at this year’s ESHRE Congress in London that shows that music seems to increase the fertilization rate of eggs in the incubator. The fertilization rate was assessed in nearly 1,000 eggs. The „musicality of the embryos“ was tested using iPods in the incubator that played different musical styles. Approximately 500 eggs were „pre-played“ with music by Metallica, Nirvana, Michael Jackson, Madonna or Bach and Vivaldi. The other 500 served as a control group and were cultured without music.
The „musical eggs“ ultimately had a 5% higher pregnancy rate.
This could be due to the fact that the sound waves cause the culture vessels to vibrate and possibly transport cell breakdown products better from their immediate surroundings. The result is a fresher culture solution environment.
