Laughter is the best medicine
January 13, 2011
The results of a recent study (219 patients) showed a significant improvement in the pregnancy rate (SR) after embryo transfer.
The background to the study was the assumption that well-being and laughter have a positive effect on various bodily processes. Positive experiences already exist in the field of pediatric medicine in seriously ill children in hospitals. This should be explored in connection with the in vitro fertilization procedure.
50 % of the patients were entertained for 15 minutes by a professional clown after the embryo transfer; the control group was treated as usual.
The first group (with the clown) achieved an SSR of 36 %, the control group only 20 %!
Most likely, the positive effect is due to the overall reduction in stress, which can also be expected to be accompanied by psychological therapy or acupuncture.
