Comparison of Mini IVF™ with conventional vehicles IVF, also from an economic perspective
In a soon-to-be-published paper by the working group led by Dr. John Zhang from New Hope Fertility Center In New York, data such as the pregnancy rate (SSR) and costs are compared.
Data from treated women < 34 years of age (treatment period 2006–2007) were compared; they were either treated at the Mini IVF™ Center (Dr. Zhang’s Center – Note by the author) or at two centers with conventional treatment IVF (Center A and B).
Costs, SSRs, and average costs per pregnancy were evaluated. Additional costs, such as those incurred due to OHSS (overstimulation syndrome) and other complications, were not included.
Results:
| Treatment method | Mini-IVF™ | conventional IVF-A | conventional IVF-B |
| Small. SSR | 37 % | 46 % | 54 % |
| Twin rate | 4 % | 31 % | 41 % |
| Drilling or more | 0 % | 6 % | 3 % |
| Costs/cycle | 8.300 $ | 14.000 $ | 14.000 $ |
| Costs/Pregnancy | 44.378 $ | 129.318 $ | 110.742 $ |
The listed costs relate to: All medical services, medications, anesthesia, vitrification for sequential SET (Single Embryo Transfer).
Of course, the astronomical US prices cannot be compared with those in Germany, for example; however, the trend is clearly visible. While the Mini IVF™ is IVF less successful compared to the conventional model, it is significantly cheaper.
